American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) of Mississippi has been working with the Mississippi Legislature to pass an Indemnification Bill, that would make Design Professionals only responsible for their own professional negligence, and not for the mistakes of third parties and others. Currently, Design Professionals are asked to defend their clients against third-party claims before any determination that the Design Professional committed a negligent act and that they also indemnify clients for damages and losses caused by the acts of others. Gulfport Branch Manager, Brian Deschamp, P.E., has been involved with ACEC in advocating for this bill to become a law. He was able to lobby congressmen for support and even meet with the governor as he signed the Mississippi Engineers’ Week Proclamation.
