A community and resiliency center is proposed for the Grand Caillou/Dulac Band of Biloxi-Chitimacha-Choctaw (GCDB) Native American Tribe in Houma, Louisiana. This effort is being conducted by Engineers Without Borders – Purdue University Chapter. The community center will not only serve as a place of refuge during hurricanes, but as a gathering place for everyday activities for the Tribe. A community garden is also planned to serve as a source of fresh produce including small-scale implementation of systems such as solar panels and water catchment.
Eustis Engineering performed a geotechnical exploration for this effort, which included the drilling of one soil boring and performance of laboratory tests. Our engineering analyses provided evaluation of site groundwater, foundation recommendations, pile driving considerations, vibration monitoring recommendations, and pavement recommendations. Eustis is proud to volunteer and participate in this project that will serve the community and Native Americans in Houma, Louisiana.
