Eustis Engineering L.L.C.’s own Sean Walsh, P.E., began his one year training program with the New Orleans Regional Leadership Institute on 16 August 2016.
Walsh was one of 43 individuals from a 10-parish region chosen for this prestigious program designed to help shape the emerging and current leaders of our community.
“I want to meet folks from other industries that I wouldn’t normally interact with on a day-to-day basis,” Walsh said about his decision to apply for this program. “(I look forward to ) building new relationships with other like-minded individuals and groups that I would not normally meet during my typical work week. Sometimes I think a missing puzzle piece is insufficient exposure to emerging leadership beyond my own professional circle. This can allow me to interact with folks from different backgrounds and learn how we can assist each other, which would then provide for identifying new goals I can set for myself and for the firm I work for.”
According to the program literature, the NORLI curriculum examines public policy, education, workforce development, diversity, criminal justice, public safety, environment, and sustainability, and will focus on how all of these issues affect economic development and quality of life. Walsh said the NORLI website gave a great description of the benefits he sees in joining the program.
“NORLI participants get an unparalleled opportunity to meet with the region’s leaders and experts during their one-year experience,” the website reads.
The program, which is not just a lecture format, includes two retreats and seven educational sessions held throughout the 10-parish area. These sessions include presentations, panels, and hands-on exercises.
“Participants hear from the area’s leaders on a number of important topics from education to crime to the environment,” according to the website. “It is a unique and fascinating ‘classroom’ that provides insights about the important issues facing our community … By the two-day closing retreat, it is evident that new connections have been formed and that these friendships will continue on for years to come.”
Walsh said he believes his involvement also offers a unique opportunity for Eustis Engineering to connect with other groups across the area.
“I also think it provides a marketing/awareness program for our firm as I will be there as a representative of Eustis Engineering,” Walsh said. “Our firm is graciously sponsoring my involvement with NORLI-2017, and I’m very grateful to the management for continuing to take an interest in me and show its commitment to my professional development. Thanks, Eustis Engineering!”
Walsh joins a class of individuals from diverse backgrounds such as education, health care, tourism, law, business, finance, communications, nonprofit, government, and more.
